5.4.12

Continuing with the idea of using lions and tigers, I rummaged through the old Nation Geographic magazines in Oxfam and found some images. I scanned them in and will use them for some sort of pattern making. (Must research patterns next).

Victoria and Albert

I continued my Final Major Project research at the V&A. My interests turned towards lions and tigers, particularly in the oriental textiles. I also especially like The Chelsea Carpet (below) made in Iran in 1500-50. Many of the handmade fabircs depicted animals, usually fighting.

Pair of throne legs, Ivory, 1100-1200.

Ironwork.

Costumes from the recent Lion King musical.

Section of the 'Tiger Taming Arhat', 1700.

Repeat

Final Major Project is coming up next term. My initial ideas are to do something with patterns within nature. Repeats and textures particularly in animal furs and skins. For inspiration I took a visit to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, one of my favourite places to photograph the taxidermy animals.
