Eightfold

Pangaea publication. The launch of the class's projects was held at The Russian Club on Kingsland Road earlier this month. Pangaea ended up containing photographs of the exteriors of the 56 houses in Ashmole Estate with a description of what was on the inside of each, letting the imagination run free.

Utopia

One of the approaches to the Pangaea Publication was to find the utopia of each of the 56 houses in Ashmole Estate. We knocked on the doors of all 56 houses in the estate and were let in by 26 of them to take photographs of the residents' favourite place in their home, the place they felt most comfortable or enjoyed being. The reason for doing this was to see the differences within each house as each one is exactly the same. The properties are purpose built, given to each resident as a sort of blank canvas. Five of the residents we spoke to had lived in their home since they were built in 1971. One of my favourite quotes was "It's not great here, I just ain't bothered moving."

Ashmole Estate

Ashmole Estate, in Vauxhall, is an interpretation of Panagaea, a supercontinent. Each house represents a country and different cultures.
